The Electronic Health Record EHR Adoption Database™ provides information on dozens of indicators that clearly illustrate the depth and level of technology integration at more then 3,600 U.S. hospitals. The database is the most current and most reliable source of IT implementation information and is collected from the AHA's annual survey of hospitals.

The Hospital EHR Adoption Database™ provides hospital-specific data in major areas:

  • Details on the intended use and implementation of Medicare and Medicaid incentive payments for meaningful use of health IT.
  • The adoption level on a six-point scale of computerized systems for:

Electronic clinical documentation: physician & nurse notes, medication lists, etc.
Results viewing: lab & radiology reports, radiology images, etc.
Decision Support: drug alerts, clinical reminders, etc.
Bar coding: patient ID, lab specimens, pharma tracking, etc.

  • The names of primary inpatient and outpatient vendors used for the EHR/EMR systems and details on anticipated changes.
  • The level of electronic exchange of information through HIE or RHIO and the types of data exchanged.
